Nominating A Preferred Beneficiary

Depending on the rules for your division, you may be able nominate a preferred beneficiary to receive some or all of your superannuation benefit in the event of your death. You can find out more by reading your {ProductDisclosureStatementName} or contact {HelplineName}.

Under the fund rules, preferred beneficiaries must be any one or more of the following:

1. Your spouse, who is defined as:

a person legally married to you
a person of the same or opposite sex with whom you are in a registered relationship
a person of the same or opposite sex who, although not legally married to you, lives with you on a genuine domestic basis in a relationship as a couple.

2. Your child, who is defined as:

your natural child, adopted child, step-child or ex-nuptial child
the natural, adopted or ex-nuptial child of your spouse
a child born to you or your spouse through artificial conception or surrogacy

3. Any other person who, in the opinion of the trustee, was substantially financially dependent on you.

4. Your legal personal representative, i.e. the executor or administrator of your estate, who then distributes the death benefit along with your estate.

A preferred beneficiary nomination is not binding on the trustee. Your nomination may help the trustee decide who should receive your benefit but the trustee has discretion to pay your death benefit to any one or more of your eligible dependants under super laws and/or your legal personal representative.

Your nomination will only apply to the account you are currently viewing. If you have multiple accounts with us, you will need to give us a separate nomination for each account.
